the davis planner is a small, focused product built for people who need real structure in their task lists — not another pastel-colored checkbox app.
Most task managers treat tasks as a flat list with optional due dates. That works for groceries. It does not work for renovating a house, planning a product launch, or managing a move across the country. Real work has layers. It nests. It branches. It changes shape as you think through it.
tdp is built around that idea. The core data structure is a tree, not a list. Every task can contain sub-tasks, and those sub-tasks can contain their own sub-tasks. You can collapse a section to see the big picture or expand it to work through the details. This is how outliners have worked for decades — we just applied it to task management and added real-time sync, calendar integration, and AI.
We are also serious about privacy. Your task data is stored in a Postgres database with row-level security. We do not sell your data, we do not train models on it, and we do not show you ads. The AI assistant sends only the context it needs to generate a response, and nothing is retained by the model provider after the request completes.
tdp works with touch, mouse, and keyboard — but if you like keyboard shortcuts, you'll feel right at home. Over 30 vim-style keybindings let you navigate, edit, and reorganise without lifting your hands. They're there if you want them, invisible if you don't.
This is a deliberate trade-off. We chose depth over breadth: fewer features, but each one works properly. A few things that matter to us:
Your task data is personal. We built tdp on infrastructure designed to keep it private, encrypted, and under your control.
Your tasks are encrypted in the database and during every connection. Each account's data is isolated — no one sees your tasks but you and the people you choose to share with.
Sign in with your password, then confirm with a code sent to your email. Your trusted devices are remembered — no need to re-verify every time on your personal phone or laptop.
The iOS app runs natively via the App Store. Sensitive credentials are stored in the iOS Keychain, not in browser storage. Same app, same data, protected by Apple's hardware security.
Davis (the AI assistant) requires explicit opt-in. Your tasks are sent to Anthropic's API only when you use the chatbot — never in the background. AI email scan & set is a separate opt-in. No training on your data.
List sharing requires email invitation and explicit acceptance. No one can add you to a list without your consent. Block any user with one tap — you're removed from the shared list and can't be re-invited.
Payments are handled entirely by Stripe (web) and Apple (iOS). We never see, process, or store your card number. Billing is managed through your Stripe portal or Apple Subscriptions.
